School Curriculum

Balwyn Primary School provides an exciting and diverse curriculum. Children are encouraged to develop positive attitudes to learning and to acquire skills that will equip them for their future education.

The school has exemplary Literacy and Numeracy programs. High student achievement is due to the structure and focused teaching at all levels. Underpinning all our curriculum is rigorous planning and high quality teaching utilising innovative learning strategies. Complementing the Literacy and Numeracy programs are the Integrated units of work, which require students to inquire and explore, interact with others and participate in shared problem solving and group decision making.

A comprehensive curriculum is provided in:

The curriculum is enriched with a number of programs and activities including:

• Music - incorporating classroom teaching, choirs, individual instrumental tuition and ensembles with opportunities to participate in musicals, drama festivals, matinees, soirees and concerts

• Library - We have an attractive library facility, accommodating in excess of 10,000 items and operated by a fully automated system. All children attend the library each week, for literature and borrowing sessions with their class teacher.
