Student Wellbeing

Balwyn Primary School is a learning community that provides a safe, healthy and caring environment for everyone. We promote cooperation, a sense of belonging, mutual respect, self-discipline, achievement and self-worth. We aim to encourage students to be life long learners, independent, resilient, responsible and to respect themselves and others. We all share this responsibility.

By empowering them with strategies to deal with everyday situations and life experiences, children can succeed in both their school work and in their life pursuits beyond the classroom.

The values that form the basis for all our learning are:

Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, Belonging and Compassion

YOU CAN DO IT

The You Can Do It Program promotes the achievement and social-emotional well being of children by teaching them the five keys to success:

Getting Along, Confidence, Organisation, Persistence and Resilience

JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL

The role of Junior School Council is to involve students in a range of democratic decision-making processes in the school. Each class elects two representatives to the Council. It gives the students experience in representing their views, formal meeting procedures and reporting back to their class on outcomes from decisions made.

The Junior School Council is encouraged to raise funds for the school, community and international needs.

BUDDY PROGRAM

The buddy program at Balwyn Primary School aims to develop relationships between classes across the school. Not only do we encourage friendships between our Preps and Years 5/6 but all our classes are linked with a buddy class. These classes get together weekly or fortnightly to eat lunch together, share experiences and participate in a variety of activities such as cooking, model making, story writing, internet research, outdoor games and craft activities.

SPECIOZA AND MOSES

At Balwyn Primary School we look beyond ourselves and encourage our students to think on a global scale. Through our child sponsorship program with Plan Australia, our children have become personally involved in the lives of two Ugandan children, Specioza and Moses. Monthly non-uniform days helps us raise the required amount of money each year to send these children to school and to assist their communities by providing them with tube-wells, seeds, clothing and health care. Our annual stationery and T-shirt drives have been an extra way we have shown compassion to our friends as we aim to "make a difference in our world."
